Most shoppers compare the payment schedule, the service call fee, and the list of covered items. Fewer check who chooses the technician who arrives at the house, or what happens when you do not like that choice. The selection step shapes how quickly a repair starts, how the work is checked, and whether you have any say in the outcome. Put it on your comparison sheet alongside the other terms.

Find the clause that names the technician source

Contracts describe the technician route in different ways. Some say the obligor assigns a contracted technician. Others let the homeowner choose a licensed local tradesperson and then seek reimbursement under stated limits. Some describe a mix of the two. Locate the clause that answers who selects the tradesperson, who schedules the visit, and whether the choice is yours at the time of a claim.

Check the licensing and insurance language

Ask what credentials the contract requires of the technician. Look for whether it names a license, a trade certification, or proof of liability insurance, and whether those requirements also apply to a tradesperson you hire yourself. Then ask who verifies them. A requirement with no check behind it is only a sentence on paper.

Test the disagreement route

Disagreements happen. A technician may say a part is not covered, a repair may drag on, or a fix may not hold. Find the steps the contract lays out for raising the issue, including whom you contact, in what form, and whether there is a review step above the first call. A route that ends with a phone call and nothing else gives you much less to work with than one that includes written escalation.

Use the published tables as a starting point

This site lists the terms each company publishes, and it cannot tell you how any company will treat your claim. Use the term by term comparison to line up the figures, then open the contract and check the technician clause against the questions above. The methodology page explains how the published terms were gathered and scored, so you can judge what the table does and does not show.
