The Home Coverage ReportHome coverage, scored on paper

Paid placement. Click 4 Coverage home coverage is a client of OwnersFirm, which publishes this site and is paid when a reader who arrives from it buys coverage. The card on this page is advertising. Nothing on this page was scored or ordered for it.

Methodology

How every score on this site is worked out

One rubric, 100 points, four buckets. Every point comes from a page a reader can open, and the same rules apply to every company, the advertiser included.

Rubric approved October 16, 2026. Facts read October 16, 2026.

The home rubric, field by field

Each company starts at zero. It earns points only for terms it prints on its own public site or in a sample contract anyone can open, and for registrations we can see on a state roster. A term we did not find on the pull date is recorded as not published and scores zero, the same as a term the company does not offer.

The figure out of 5 is the score divided by 20 and rounded to one decimal place, so 70 points reads as 3.5. We print it because readers are used to seeing it; the 100-point score is the one that matters, and it is always printed beside it.

A worked example

The arithmetic for the top row and for the advertiser's row, from the scored file (facts read 2026-10-16):

  • Home Warranty of America: transparency 30 + consumer terms 35 + standing 25 + public record 10 = 100, or 5.0 out of 5.
  • Click 4 Coverage home coverage: transparency 10 + consumer terms 20 + standing 0 + public record 10 = 40, or 2.0 out of 5.

Every other row is worked the same way; each fact sheet on the front page prints its four bucket totals.

Where the facts come from

  • Company pages. Each company's own FAQ, terms, about and sample-contract pages. The address of the page behind every fact is stored with the row and printed on its fact sheet.
  • State rosters. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services list of registered home service contract providers, the Iowa Insurance Division roster published through data.iowa.gov, the New York Department of Financial Services list, the Nevada Division of Insurance list and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation file on data.texas.gov. A company counts as listed when its name, or the name of the obligor it prints, matches a roster row.
  • Public record. Only primary government sources: state regulator orders, attorney general filings and federal agency releases. "None found" means our searches of those sources returned nothing; it is not a guarantee of a clean history.
  • Pull dates. Every row carries its pull date. This edition's facts were read on October 16, 2026, and the file is home_warranty_providers.json.

Ties, gaps and blocked pages

Companies with the same score are listed alphabetically. When a company's site refused automated reading, its row is marked blocked, the fields we could not read are left empty, and they score zero until a person reads them in a browser. We never fill a gap with a guess.

What is not scored

We do not score reviews, cost or customer service. Star ratings come from platforms whose terms forbid this use and whose business includes selling services to the companies rated. Prices are quoted one household at a time and cannot be compared on equal terms. Customer service cannot be measured from a primary source without a survey we have not run. We would rather leave a bucket out than fill it with a number we cannot defend.

How this site is paid

OwnersFirm publishes this site. Click 4 Coverage is an OwnersFirm client and pays for the card labeled "Paid placement", which appears above ranked tables and on other pages. OwnersFirm is paid when a reader who arrives from this site buys coverage from Click 4 Coverage. Its row in every table is scored by this rubric from what click-4-coverage.com prints, and nothing it pays changes a point. No other company pays to appear, and no company can pay to be scored differently. If the advertiser should rank higher, the fix is on its own site: publishing a sample contract, its legal name and its obligor would each add points on the day they appear.

Corrections

If a company changes its published terms, or you find a fact on this site that does not match the page it cites, tell us through OwnersFirm. We re-read the cited page, correct the row, re-run the score for every company, and note the date of the change on the affected page. Companies are welcome to point us to a page we missed; a fact only counts once it is public.
